Love’s Resonance

There’ s a warm arm that awaits

To sling just so around my shoulder

A brazen love that steeps in patience

A daring heart to disarm me

Without fear

Only love

That answers what I ask

And honestly so

That forgets its shame in my presence

and strips me of mine

That contentedly lies with me

sighing in the harmonic tones

that match sound of my soul

Accomodations

A stream of light

Through a door ajar

It pushes in

Though not too far

An eerie glow

To charge the dark

To shroud its bite

And swell its bark

A terror now

Is fostered here

The tingling touches

The blackness leers

Something lurks

Poised to pounce

As your fear festers

Ounce by ounce

The still of night

Chills so within

Each subtle noise

A frightful din

Cocooned in bedding

Devoid of sight

With a thundering heart

You endure the night

Convinced

The convincing minds we have

So desperate to believe

what we have decided we are certain of,

Like scalding our tongues on our morning coffee

to hurry wakeful moments,

Finding patterns in our sacred texts

to make peace with preventable atrocities

Forcing our lives to be alike

while proclaiming our uniqueness,

Our emotions play accomplice in this,

For if you love someone enough

You can heal them

fix them

make them love you back

Not realizing that you hold all the love meant for the both of you

And give it all to them anyway

You have renamed this luggage hope

And painted it red

for love

for danger

for blood

That people are integrally good

as long as your doors are locked

And your gun is loaded

Minds are conflicted by fear

but rarely our own

That story you read of a woman raped

as a crowd watched

and did nothing

Reminds you of the time a homeless man

knocked on your car window

Asking for a dollar

You see, we all suffer

Stars

What could have been

Shall never be

Yet still it has

its grip on me

What should have happened

Never did

And parts of me

Still to it bid

What may or may not

Come to pass

Was never really

meant to last

Yet what shall be

Before me lies

And keeps the stars

Within my eyes

Missed Connection

A sweet entwinement

Of different worlds

A mystery

Unclasped, unfurled

A deepened pain

For what was missed

A destiny

A wanton kiss

With honesty

She wished him well

A history

That none could tell

The world remained

Even without

His majesty

Contained no doubt

So she would dream

Of tousled locks

A travesty

Of cursed clocks

Paper

I am hopeless within it

folded and creased

reformed by its oragamic sway

Suddenly I am art

Beauty

revealing a delicate grace

once hidden in my vast corners

Organically I am changed

by its skillful hands

it knows which edges belong together

which pieces to tuck away

I am guided to take form

as a masterpiece

Refashioned into something

original, intricate, impossible

but for its mastery

Learning the Hard Way

As deep a slice can go

Without nicking the bone

Gestating old emotions

I thought I had outgrown

So comical the turn

I’ve naught to do but laugh

Always trudging forth

On so elliptical a path

I know not who I am

I know not what I know

A pattern deeply rutted

So upward I must go

Can’t say I haven’t learned

The message all too clear

Now it’s time to ascertain

If I’m really here

In a Mirror, in a Bathroom, in a Bar

Just another face

Inside the spotted glass

Disappearing

Hazy with smeared kisses

From beautiful women

An unwashed commingling of strong bonds

And stifled pain resurfacing

If you are ever here

It is wise to bring someone

to tell you how beautiful you are

For the honesty of such a place

With its chipped edges and grime

Will make the scars rise and the tears threaten

Punctuated by the sizzling, flickering light

Reminding us

this is what we are left with

Now choose your favorite bit of scrawled wisdom

And go

For the next look is always the hardest

Downpour

Come through the falling veil

And rest below my eaves

Let’s watch the puddles ripple

And track the gutter sailing leaves

Let’s each find our own rhythm

Within the driving rain

Then play them for each other

And see if they’re the same

Let’s watch the drops of water

Burst upon the street

Then rejoin one another

Where the sloping crossroads meet

Let’s find a drop to fall with

And dare to take the dive

Let’s dance within its sheets

And like the blossoms, be revived
